This necklace features a silver fish suspended between light green nylon braid and fastened with a silver button at the back. The carved fish is a member of the galaxid family, which are so-named for the small black spots visible in their silver-ish glass-like bodies, reminiscent of a galaxy of stars. The fish of the galaxid family are among the many species of juvenile fish which make up the famous whitebait, and which are a threatened species in NZ rivers.
This pendant reflects on the preciousness of NZ waterways, and the smaller species which are an important part of both the NZ fauna, but also the cultural way of life of many New Zealanders. And, of course, celebrates the beauty of the fish itself.
Total necklace length 50cm including the fish itself.
